Over the next several days, OSU senior golfer Pernilla Lindberg will be sharing her account of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship in Australia. Lindberg is one of two Cowgirls representing the Swedish team and one of five OSU players overall in the event. Below is her fifth entry.
Hello Everybody!
Another day is almost over here in Australia. I cannot believe that I've already been here six days! I guess they say that time flies by when you have fun ☺
We were back on the West course today. Many consider this course to be a tougher course, but I choose to believe that if you hit the ball well, no course is tougher than the other! It's all about giving yourself good birdie opportunities and making the putts...
My team had another good day today. Anna 68, Caroline 70, Pernilla 72. We are now 15-under par as a team and this puts us eight shots ahead of Spain and 15 shots ahead of South Africa. On the individual leaderboard, we are all among the top six (out of 144 players).
I am really excited about our team performance so far this week, but we are only half way through the tournament and there is a lot of golf left. We will keep on playing according to our plan, and not focus on what the other teams are doing. A main thing for us this week has been to only worry about things we can affect, this to not waste energy during a long week like this.
Even though my score has not counted for the team yet, I know that all three of us feel confident out on the course knowing that both teammates are playing well.
The team has a bet going on with our coach, we have to make 60 birdies as a team during the four tournament days or we have to birdie every hole on both courses to get a surprise. We had a good start yesterday, 16 birdies as a team and we made birdies on 12 of the holes on the East course. We “only” reached 11 birdies and one eagle today and made birdies on 10 of the holes on the West course. We do not want to see our coach winning this bet, so we better make our birdies during the next two days ☺
