Diary From Down Under No. 4
October 09, 2008 | Cowgirl Golf
Over the next several days, OSU senior golfer Pernilla Lindberg will be sharing her account of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship in Australia. Lindberg is one of two Cowgirls representing the Swedish team and one of five OSU players overall in the event. Below is her fourth entry.
Hello everybody!
The tournament has finally started and the Swedish team showed that we are ready to fight this week!
The two best scores from each team count every day and our team score ended at 9-under today, which put us at the top of the leaderboard. We played the East course (par 73). I shot 72, Anna (Nordqvist) 70, and Caroline (Hedwall) 67.
This puts us all among the top three on the individual leaderboard as well! I was joking at the press conference after the round when a man from the local newspaper asked me how it felt to shoot 1-under par and still not be counted for the team score. I told him I should probably try to sell my score to another team.
It was a lot of fun to be on the course today, we had a great connection between the groups and I could see that my teammates were playing well. I believe that there are two key factors behind our success on the course today, the preparation we have had on the course during the practice rounds and our team spirit. We have a lot of fun together, both on and off the golf course!
After the round, we spent some time doing laundry and catching up on homework (cannot get too far behind even though the motivation to study is tough during a week like this).
Not the most exciting afternoon, but we ended the night with a trip to a "revolving restaurant". The restaurant was on the 12th floor, and the whole place was spinning around. The view was amazing, we saw both the ocean and the mountains.
I am off at 10:26 tomorrow (local time) and it will be time to face the West course instead. If you are interested in following us, you can find live scoring from the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
