October 06, 2008 | Cowgirl Golf
Over the next several days, OSU senior golfer Pernilla Lindberg will be sharing her account of the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship in Australia. Lindberg is one of two Cowgirls representing the Swedish team and one of three Cowgirls in the event. (Caroline Hedwall of Sweden and Caroline Masson of Germany being the other two) Below is her first entry.
Hey Everybody!
It's now Sunday night in Adelaide, Australia. This means that it is early Sunday morning in Oklahoma...confusing!
We flew in Friday morning after a 34-hour long trip (door to door). Caroline Hedwall and I met up with our third teammate, Anna Nordqvist, and our Coach, Marcus HÃ¥kansson, in Los Angeles Wednesday night and then we all had company on the long flight over here! We got here on time and all our luggage showed up, this is always a nice feeling.
After spending most of Friday in the hotel room trying to recover from some jet lag, we have now played two practice rounds. The tournament will be held on two different courses, and we have so far played one round on each course. The courses are really nice but challenging. It has not been raining here for a while, and both the fairways and the green areas are firm. We all can agree upon the fact that it is a different kind of game that will have to be used here compared to what we are use to in the U.S. Since the greens are firm, you really have to use your imagination and create shots you are not used to.
Besides golf so far, we have not had time to see much of Australia...yet! We are staying at a really nice hotel and I have been waking up looking over the ocean every morning. It is a beautiful view and nothing I am spoiled with from Stillwater. : )
The highlight of today has been a trip to IKEA. Being Swedish and having not been in our home country for the last two months, this was really exciting! We just looked through the food market and ended up buying some Swedish candy. This should put us all in a good mood and make us feel like home.
Tomorrow and on Tuesday will be our last two practice rounds and the tournament will then start on Wednesday!
Pernilla
