Cowboys Topple Texas Tech, 49-45
September 23, 2007 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Brandon Pettigrew's 54-yard touchdown catch with 1:37 remaining lifted Oklahoma State to a 49-45 win over Texas Tech in front of 37,850 fans Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 2-2 on the season and won its Big 12 Conference opener for the first time since 2004.
With Texas Tech leading 45-42 and in possession of the ball, OSU's Jacob Lacey knocked away a pass on third down-and-six to force a punt with just under two minutes left.
On OSU's ensuing possession, quarterback Zac Robinson connected with Pettigrew for the game-winning points on the first play from scrimmage.
"(The Texas Tech) SAM (linebacker) bailed and left me in a hole, and Zac got it to me," said Pettigrew, the junior tight end whose touchdown catch was his only grab of the game. "It was meant to probably be a five, six, seven yard play, but somehow I made a play.
“He had good position on the ball, but I guess long arms help me out.”
But the Cowboys still had to stop TTU's offense one more time.
And they did, as Red Raider quarterback Graham Harrell's pass on 4th-and-goal from the eight-yard line fell incomplete with 19 ticks remaining on the clock.
TTU (3-1, 0-1) went ahead on a 19-yard field goal by Alex Trlica with 4:49 remaining.
The two teams combined for over 1,300 yards in total offense in the contest. The Cowboys rushed for 366 yards and had three players  Dantrell Savage, Kendall Hunter and Robinson  each top the 100-yard mark on the ground.
Robinson finished 16-of-32 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards and two more scores on 13 carries.
After a first half that saw the two teams rack up 767 yards of offense, Texas Tech took a 35-28 lead into intermission.
Harrell was 28-of-35 passing in the first half for 388 yards and four touchdowns. He finished with 646 yards and five scores on 46-of-67 through the air.
Three of OSU's touchdowns in the opening half came on the ground, while Robinson also connected with Dez Bryant on a five-yard scoring strike.
