Matthews Receives National Award

Matthews accumulated the most points by a female in the Royal Canadian Golf Association's National Order of Merit standings, which recognizes season-long achievements and were established to identify Canada's top amateur golfers.
Her highlights during the course of the 2006 season included a second-place showing at the Ontario Women's Amateur Championship and a ninth-place finish at the Royale Cup National Women's Amateur Championship. Matthews also represented Canada at the women's World Amateur Team Championship.
Other tournament finishes for Matthews in 2006 included a fifth-place finish at the Australian Women's Amateur Championship and a sixth-place finish at the European Women's Amateur Championship.
Also on Monday, Matthews was also named as a member of Team Canada that will participate in the Copa de las Americas tournament, June 18-24, at Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario. The Copa de las Americas is a bi-annual event which began in 2003. Matthews has been a participant in the previous two events as Team Canada won both.
