Johnson Wins First Match at WWGA National Amateur Championship

Amanda Johnson, a junior-to-be on the Oklahoma State Cowgirl golf team, won her first match at the 107th National Amateur Championship, sponsored by the Women's Western Golf Association, here Wednesday on the Stone Creek Golf Club.
Johnson, a Jenks, Okla., native, shot a 72-74Â146 during stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, finishing tied for ninth and advancing to match play. She defeated Corinna Rees, a native of Pebble Beach, Calif., 5 and 4 during the first round of match play on Wednesday morning. Rees is a sophomore-to-be for the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks.
The second- and third-round matches will take place on Thursday, with quarterfinal and semifinal matchups played on Friday. The championship match will be played over 36 holes on Saturday.
