Postgame Quotes vs. Panhandle State
November 04, 2007 | Cowboy Basketball
Head Coach Sean Sutton
On the game
We did some good things and we did some not so good things. I thought our young players played pretty well and I was proud of them. Some of our older guys didn't play like we've been playing at practice. I think it showed in some of the turnovers and some of the forced shots. But I was pleased with their effort. I thought they played hard. They were good at the defensive end for the most part in terms of effort and stance. We had some missed assignment but we didn't shoot the ball like we've been shooting in practice. We still hit 44 percent from the 3-point line. I guess you'd take that most nights. I didn't think we were as good in the second half in transition in terms of getting the ball down the court and converting easy opportunities. We aren't good right now in our half court offense. The effort was good, the execution wasn't.
On Marcus Dove
I think one of the things he can do for us this year is what he worked on this summer, and that's his offensive game. I don't think its going to change his mindset at the defensive end. He prides himself at being one of the best defenders in college basketball, but he's just better at the offensive end. He and Terrel Harris are the two most improved players. Marcus played really well tonight and Terrel, Byron Eaton and Obi Muonelo didn't play like their capable of.
On James Anderson
He can play better. He missed some shots tonight that most nights he'll hit. He drilled himself out of some shots and didn't finish at the basket but he made some great passes. He's going to be a special player.
On the starting lineup
Byron has been out of practice but I started the five guys that played the best through 19 practices.
On Muonelo and Sidorakis
Obi didn't play as well as he's been playing. Nick and rest of the young players came in and did well. A lot of them were really nervous before the game.
Senior Forward Marcus Dove
On the game
We played good as a team. We had a couple letdowns there in the second half. We really moved the ball in the first half and kind of got away from that in the second half. In the first half we had a lot of easy shots and we were able to make a lot of those wide open shots, so I think we've got to work on transition defense and moving the ball a little more
On his individual performance
I had a good game. Me and Obi got up everyday in the summer and worked out at 6 a.m. so it's good to get out there and see it pay off in the game.
On his surprising offensive production
It's good to surprise people, but it's not going to go away. I look forward to keeping the production up.
It's more of a mindset and probably confidence. We lost Mario (Boggan) and JamesOn (Curry) which was the focal points of the offense last year and this year we have a whole new offense that really allows dribble penetration and kickouts and open shots, so I think the new offense helps also.
On defensive intensity
I think our intensity is a lot better than last year and it's still early so I think we can still get better at that.
Sophomore Guard Obi Muonelo
On playing point guard
It was a little different. It was the first time I'd played the point position. At first I was uncomfortable but as the game kept on going I got more comfortable.
I played (point guard) a little bit in high school, but besides that I've never played it before.
On defensive intensity compared to last year
I think we were more intense for a whole game this game than we ever were last year for the whole game.
