Petrov Advances to Second Round in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State sophomore Dmytro Petrov picked up a win in the first round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships on Monday.

Petrov advanced in impressive fashion, defeating Alabama's Dan Buikema 6-3, 6-1. He will face North Carolina State's Nick Cavaday in second-round action on Tuesday. Cavaday, who is ranked 55^th in the country, defeated Kentucky's Brad Cox to advance to the second round.

Cowboy head coach James Wadley was impressed with the way his sophomore played on Monday, but he is fully aware that Petrov will have a tough task ahead of him Tuesday morning.

“Dmytro played very well today to win the way he did,” said Wadley. “He needs to play well tomorrow because Cavaday is a good player from a good program.”

Petrov and Cavaday will square off at 8 a.m. at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Petrov and teammate Oleksandr Nedovyesov will kick off doubles action for the Pokes against Clemson's Ike Belk and Derek Difazio at 2 p.m.
