OSU Coach Quotes
Head Coach Sean Sutton
On the win over Sam Houston State
Obviously, we played better in the second half. I thought for the first 15 minutes we looked very sluggish, very lethargic at the offensive end. We didnt have much energy at all. We had a lengthy discussion at halftime and I thought that we came back in the second half and played with a lot more fire. We turned it up on the defensive end.
Right now, we are a lot better when we can get out in transition and score points off turnovers. I think we have forced 99 turnovers in our first four games. Our defense was pretty solid throughout. They only shot 36 percent. We got that lead and I thought for the last 10 minutes we coasted and didnt play as hard and as well, but I am glad we won and I am glad we are 4-0.
On senior forward David Monds
This is the best he has played. He is capable of playing like this a lot. He is always better when he rebounds the ball. When he is rebounding and playing with energy, his offense picks up. You can look at him and know if he is rebounding, then he is probably playing well on the offensive end. I was proud of the way he bounced back, because he didnt play well the other night.
On Sam Houston State
This is a team that has a chance to make the NCAA Tournament, I think. They and Northwestern State are the two best teams in (the Southland Conference). They had Texas Tech down by four points at halftime last week. I thought it was important that we controlled the tempo, but they played so conservative on the offensive end, milking the clock and making us work on defense.
Sophomore Guard Terrell Harris
On the overall play of Oklahoma State
It was our first early afternoon game this year, and we started off a little slow. Overall, I think we finished strong.
On having a team full of scorers
(Mario) Boggan and (JamesOn) Curry can score their points because they are good shooters. This season, we have been able show that we have other players who can score as many points as they can. If we have a scorer who is feeling hot, they are going to get the ball. Everyone on this team can score and we will run plays for the player who is feeling it.
On Oklahoma State committing 17 turnovers
We had too many turnovers. Personally, I feel we should not have more than eight or nine turnovers a game. With as many guards as we have, even our big men can handle the ball well.
Senior Forward David Monds
On Oklahoma State finishing strong in the second half
When it was a close game at the half, coach (Sean) Sutton came into the locker room and got on us hard. Coach told us that we have to come out hard no matter what. Going into the second half, we tried to correct the mistakes we made in the first half. We went out and played as hard as we know we can. We did play a sloppy first half, but the second half was a different ball game.
On scoring a season-high 17 points
Like what coach said, we have a lot of players who can go out and score 18-20 points a game. It was a matter of playing bad offensively in the first two games, it was just me pacing myself. I did not have to force the issue of scoring. It felt good to hit that three at the end of the first half. Coach has showed confidence in me shooting threes. It is just the matter of making the shot or not.
On giving up 21 offensive rebounds to Sam Houston State
The thing about giving up 21 offensive rebounds was that we emphasized a lot on rebounding in practice. We just have to learn to carry over what we do in practice into the game. We need to learn how to beat the other team to the glass.
