Head Coach Sean Sutton
On tonights game
l thought our guys played well. They were fun to watch. They played hard on defense and were able to create a lot of offense off our defense. We got out in transition and got some easy baskets and spot-up three-point shots. We are much better when we can get out in the open court and make plays with our athleticism.
One thing that I really like about this team is that they are always looking to make the extra pass. They get as much satisfaction out of that as they do scoring.
The last seven or eight minutes we relaxed a little bit on defense and didnt get after it as much at that point. We got that big lead and went through a little period of time on offense where there was not enough ball movement and we started turning the ball over. Other than that, we did a lot of good things. We shot 68 percent from the floor, made 14 three-point shots, had 22 assists, had 10 steals and had five guys in double figures. When those things happen, we are going to look good.
On freshman Obi Muonelo
He is an energy-type player. Right now, he has no fear on the court. He is full of confidence and we want him to stay that way. He is not afraid to make the play. He is not afraid to step up and take the big shot. Those are the types of characteristics you want in your players. To have that as a freshman is very special.
On his teams three-point shooting
Every one of our guys took (a three-point shot) tonight. I am comfortable with all of them shooting the ball from the three-point line. Kenny (Cooper) is the one exception, however there are certain areas of the court that I would allow him to shoot three-point shots.
Freshman Guard Obi Muonelo
On getting into a rhythm in the victory against Florida Atlantic
I was a little antsy heading into tonight's game by coming into Gallagher-Iba Arena because it is a nice place to play. In the exhibition games, I felt nervous shooting the ball as it made me not shoot the way I wanted. Tonight, I finally got into my comfort zone that I have been playing in for a long time. Once I started hitting, I felt really relaxed.
On how he expects himself to play each game
I do not know if this is what everyone expects from me, but the way I played tonight is the kind of ball I expect from myself.
Senior Forward Mario Boggan
On getting revenge against Florida Atlantic
Talking about the loss to Florida Atlantic a few years back was one of the biggest things we thought about this week. It was one of the two non-conference losses Oklahoma State has suffered in this gym in a while. We kept that in our head and we came out wanting to beat them bad.
On head coach Sean Sutton
It has been different with Sean Sutton being the head coach. He lets us play and lets us make mistakes as long as we get back and play hard on defense. Of course, if you make a couple of mistakes you will get pulled, but he is relaxed and lets us do what we can do and that makes us play hard.
On the play of freshman guard Obi Muonelo
Like I said from the beginning, I love the way Obi (Muonelo) plays. To be a freshman, he is one of our toughest and hard-nosed players. The way he distributed the ball in the preseason, he showed that tonight. That is the kind of player he is though as he has respect for other players. He can score and pass when he wants. He is a good player and I would go out to war with him on any day.
