Cowgirl Golfers Advance to NCAA Championships

Cowgirl junior Karin Sjödin carded a one-over-par 73 during Saturday's round and finished tied for sixth place individually. It was the Swedish native's best finish of the spring season after winning two tournaments and finishing runnerup in the third of the fall semester.
UCLA and Tennessee tied for team honors with a three-day total of 889. California finished third with an 891, and USC finished fourth with an 892. Oklahoma State finished with an 898, while UC-Irvine and BYU tied for sixth with identical 906s. Stanford, which carded a 908, finished eighth for the final spot to advance to nationals. Fifth-ranked Georgia, which recorded a 309 during the final round, finished ninth and will not advance.
Cowgirl sophomore Mallorie Underwood continued her consistent play and tied for 11th individually. She scored a one-over 73 during Saturday's round and finished at 223. Senior Annie Thurman-Young, the two-time Big 12 individual champion, moved up a total of 39 spots from her first round and finished 32nd with a 11-over 227.
Sophomore Candie Herrera recorded a 74 during the final round, and moved up 15 spots to 40th place. Ali Griffin, an Edmond, Okla., product, finished with a solid 78, ending the tournament with a 235.
The top-eight teams and top-two individuals not affiliated with those teams from each of three regionals advance to the NCAA Championships, May 17-20, at the Meadows Course in Sunriver, Ore. Oklahoma State will be making its fifth-consecutive appearance as a team, and finished second at last year's championships.
