May 21, 2005 | Cowgirl Golf
Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman-Young and Karin Sjodin were named first-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association, it was announced Friday night at the annual NGCA Awards Banquet following the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Championship. It marks the first time in school history that two members have been named first-team All-American in the same season.
Additionally, Sjodin was awarded both the Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award and the Dinah Shore Trophy Award. She is the first Cowgirl to garner the Dinah Shore Trophy, awarded based on athletic ability, academic achievement and community service. It is the equivalent of the Ben Hogan Award on the men's side.
Sjodin also became the third Oklahoma State golfer to be given the Edith Cummings Munson Trophy, awarded based on stroke average and grade point average. She joins Stephanie Martin and Emma Zackrisson as the only other Cowgirls to win the award.
Sophomore Ali Griffin, an Edmond, Okla., native, joined Sjodin on the NGCA All-Scholar team. To be named to the list, a golfer must participate in at least 50 percent of its teams tournaments and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.
