Cowgirl Golfers earn Conference Honors

Annie Thurman-Young, a senior on the Oklahoma State women's golf team, was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Year, it was announced this evening at the 2005 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship Banquet. The Big 12 Championships individual titleist a year ago, Thurman-Young ranks fourth nationally as an individual in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
Coach Mike McGraw, in his first year as head coach of the Cowgirls, was named the Big 12 Conference's Coach of the Year. Under McGraw, OSU is ranked seventh nationally, has three top-three finishes, and is undefeated in head-to-head competition vs. other Big 12 schools.
Thurman-Young, along with teammate Karin Sjodin, were named first-team All-Big 12 in a vote of the league coaches. It marks the third time both players have been named All-Big 12, and is the second first-team naming.
In the classroom, Sjodin and sophomore Ali Griffin were named first-team Academic All-Big 12, while sophomore Mallorie Underwood was named second-team Academic All-Big 12. Sjodin is majoring in general business, while Griffin is majoring in journalism & broadcasting. Underwood has not declared a major.
The Cowgirls begin play in the Big 12 Championships on Friday morning, beginning at 8 a.m., here on the University of Texas Golf Club course.
