Cowboy Tennis Dominant in Win Over Ball State
March 13, 2005 | Cowboy Tennis
At No. 1 doubles, senior Boris Kuharic and junior Felipe Diaz upset a top 15 opponent for the second time this season, defeating 15th-ranked Matt Baccarani and Patrick Thompson, 8-4.
Mark Van Elden and Daniel Byrnes moved down to the No. 2 spot and responded nicely with an 8-5 win over Anthony Epkey and Brad Rhodes.
At No. 3 doubles, Artie Burmistrau and Tomas Bohunicky improved to 9-0 on the season with an 8-4 win over Klint Knable and Paul Newman.
The Cardinals picked their lone point early in singles play when Diaz retired after one set against Newman because of a nagging ankle injury suffered two weeks ago against Wake Forest.
Byrnes improved his personal winning streak to six matches with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Knable at the No. 6 position. Kuharic followed Byrnes' victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win of his own over Epkey.
Van Elden then clinched the match by defeating Baccarani, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 1 singles. Bohunicky fought off the flu to pull out a gutsy 6-4, 7-6 victory over Matt Laramore at the No. 2 position.
OSU shuffled the lineup again by moving Burmistrau down to the No. 5 position where he defeated Thompson, 6-4, 7-6.
The Cowboys finish up the weekend tomorrow at noon (CST) against No. 71 UNLV.
