Cowboys face Bears
Oklahoma State travels to Waco, Texas, this weekend for a game with the Baylor Bears on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 3:05 p.m. OSU is 21-3 overall this season and 11-2 in Big 12 Conference action, coming off a 93-92 double overtime loss at Missouri Tuesday night. Baylor is 8-18 overall, 3-10 in league play and fresh off a 67-61 overtime win at Texas A&M Wednesday night. The Cowboys are ranked sixth in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls. OSU won the earlier meeting between these two schools, 91-58, on Feb. 14, in Stillwater.
Graham named Big 12 ROW
Cowboy junior Joey Graham was named the Big 12 Conference's Rookie of the Week for his performance in two games last week. His 36 points vs. Nebraska are the most by a Big 12 player this season, and ties for the most by a Cowboy junior in school history.
On television
Saturday's game between Oklahoma State and Baylor will be televised live by ESPN Regional, part of the Big 12 Conference's television package. Dave Armstrong will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Doherty will provide expert analysis. A list of selected regional outlets that will carry the game can be located elsewhere in this release.
Allen, Lucas named All-District
Senior Tony Allen and junior John Lucas were both named first-team All-District 12 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced last Wednesday afternoon. That gave the Cowboys two players on the first team of their respective all-district team, one of 10 teams in the country to share that distinction. Both players are now listed as candidates for the NABC's All-America teams.
Last time out
John Lucas scored a career-high 30 points, and Tony Allen added 24, including 10 in the two overtimes, but the Cowboys could not overcome 31- and 29-point performances by Missouri's two senior stars Rickey Paulding and Arthur Johnson. The Tigers defeated the Cowboys, 93-92, in double overtime. OSU overcame a 13-point deficit in the first half, which sat at 11 during intermission. Oklahoma State still trailed by nine, 71-62, with just under five minutes remaining in regulation, but went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 71 with 1:31 to go. The loss ended OSU's 11-game winning streak, the longest conference string at Oklahoma State since the 1945-46 season.
Joey's performance special
Last Saturday, Joey Graham scored a career-high 36 points vs. the Huskers. It was the second-most points ever by a Cowboy in Gallagher-Iba Arena, behind only Bob Kurland's school record 58 points vs. St. Louis on Feb. 22, 1946. It also tied the school record for points scored by a Cowboy junior, set by Ronnie Daniel vs. Villanova on Dec. 20, 1974. Here is a look at the top-five single-game scoring performances by a Cowboy junior:
