The U.S. squad, the youngest ever assembled, will face a team from Great Britain and Ireland at England's Formby Golf Club in Merseyside, England, June 12-13.
Members of the United States team are: Erica Blasberg, a sophomore at the University of Arizona; Paula Creamer and Jane Park, a pair of 17 year olds that squared off in the semifinals of the Women's Amateur last year; Sarah Huarte, a senior at the University of California; Elazabeth Janangelo and Brittany Lang, both members of the Duke University golf team; and Michelle Wie, the youngest player to be selected in the event's 72-year history.
The Curtis Cup match, scheduled every other year, consists of 12 singles and six foursomes (alternate shot) matches. The U.S. team has won the last three matches in 1998, 2000 and 2002. The United States also leads the series, begun in 1932, by a 23-6-3 margin.
Thurman, the 2002 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links champion, advanced to the Sweet 16 at both the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links and U.S. Women's Amateur last summer. During the summer of 2003, she competed as an amateur in the U.S. Women's Open.
The alternates for the team also include an Oklahoma State Cowgirl. Ashley Knoll, a freshman for OSU this season, is one of three alternates for the Curtis Cup squad. She joins Leigh Anne Hardin and Amber Marsh-Elliott.
