Cowgirl Golf ranked fourth in preseason poll
September 08, 2003 | Cowgirl Golf
A pair of Cowgirls were also named preseason first-team All-Americans in the same publication. Both sophomore Karin Sjödin and junior Annie Thurman made the 10 player squad, and both were honorable mention All-Americans a year ago.
Oklahoma State returns three starters from a year ago when the Cowgirls finished fifth at the NCAA Championships and were ranked third in the final Golfweek ranking. Returning with Sjödin and Thurman is sophomore Jenny Karr.
OSU must replace Linda Wessberg and Christi Cano who were both four-year starters for coach Amy Weeks. Four freshmen will vie for a spot in the starting rotation.
Those four are: Candy Herrera, who redshirted last season; Ali Griffin, who had a top-five AJGA finish in 2003; Ashley Knoll, who made the Sweet 16 at the 2003 Women's Amateur and won three ranked junior events in 2002-03; and Mallory Underwood, who lost to Knoll in the first round of the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Oklahoma State opens the season this weekend at the NCAA Fall Preview in Auburn, Ala.
