Cowgirl Tennis Drops Close Match Against Tulsa

Oklahoma State (8-6 Overall, 3-3 Big 12) has been struggling all year to pick up the doubles point, but was able to take the early lead for the second consecutive match. The Cowgirls dropped 4 of 6 singles matches for the loss.
The No. 25 nationally ranked duo of senior Linda Faltynkova and junior Katya Kolodynska started the scoring for OSU when they knocked off No. 30 Alicia Pillay and Aleksandra Durska at the No. 1 position, 8-3.
Senior Erin Pauchnik and sophomore Ewa Radzikowska clinched the doubles point by knocking off Tiffany Smith and Mariana Barrios at the No. 2 position, 8-5.
The Golden Hurricane were able to avoid the sweep when Zoe Buhagiar and Daniela Muscolino held on to defeat sophomore Ines Furtmayr and freshman Zana Masnic at the No. 3 position, 9-8 (6).
OSU was unable to capitalize on the early lead, dropping their first three singles matches.
Faltynkova jumped out to an early lead on No. 24 ranked Pillay, but was unable to hold off a late charge, falling 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. The victory evened the team score at 1-1.
At the No. 2 position, senior Kate Vasylyeva fell behind TU's Durska, and was unable to overcome the early deficit, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Tulsa widened the gap when Muscolino dropped Kolodynska at the No. 3 singles position in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The Cowgirls notched their first singles team point at the No. 4 position. Radzikowska continued her hot streak by defeating Smith, 7-6, 6-3. Radzikowska owns a 8-3 record at the No. 4 singles position.
TU would clinch the match at the No. 5 position when Buhagiar defeated Masnic in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Furtmayr made the match closer by picking up a victory at the No. 6 position over Donata Majauskiute, 6-3, 6-3. Furtmayr has now won three consecutive matches, improving to 9-5 on the year.
The loss to Tulsa (11-8 Overall) was the first time the Cowgirls have been defeated by their instate rival since the 2000 season. OSU has now lost 3 of its last 4 outings.
Oklahoma State will be looking to rebound this weekend when they take on two Big 12 opponents.
On Saturday, March 5, the Cowgirls will be in Ames, Iowa, to take on the Cyclones (1-11 Overall, 0-7 Big 12) at the Forker Tennis Courts at 11:00 a.m.
The Cowgirls have never lost a match to the Cyclones. They hold a 24-0 all-time series advantage against their Big 12 opponents.
After their match against the ISU, Oklahoma State will travel to Lincoln, Neb., where they will take on the Cornhuskers (10-5 Overall, 1-4 Big 12) at 11:00 a.m. at the Cather-Pound Courts.
OSU will be looking to be over .500 in conference for the first time since they started 1-0 against Colorado on February 15.
