Cowgirl Golfers Take No. 1 Ranking To Auburn

OSU enters the tournament as the No. 1 team in the country, according to the Sagarin Index/GolfWeek.com rankings. The top-five teams will compete in the tournament, including No. 2 Vanderbilt, third-ranked Arizona, No. 4 Auburn and fifth-ranked Duke. Ninth-ranked USC and No. 10 Texas will also be competing, making seven of the top 10 ranked teams participating in the tournament.
The Oklahoma State duo of freshman Karin Sjödin and sophomore Annie Thurman will pace the Cowgirls. Both are ranked in the top-20 nationally, with Sjödin ranked seventh and Thurman 17th. Also competing for OSU will be 31st-ranked Christi Cano, No. 45 Linda Wessberg and a pair of sophomores, Jenny Karr and Lisa Jean.
The tournament, considered one of the toughest during the season, includes 10 of the top 12 teams, according to the GolfWorld/Coaches Poll. In that ranking, Duke is No. 1, followed by second-ranked Arizona, No. 3 Auburn, fourth-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 5 Vanderbilt, sixth-ranked Florida, No. 7 Texas, ninth-ranked USC, No. 11 Tennessee, and 12th-ranked Georgia. All will be competing in the tournament, along with 20th-ranked South Carolina, TCU and LSU.
Oklahoma State has competed in three tournaments so far this season, earning medalist honors at the TOPY Cup and finishing second at the NCAA Fall Preview and the Tar Heel Invitational. The Cowgirls will tee off on Friday at 9 a.m., paired with the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. The tournament will continue on Saturday with another round of 18 holes, and conclude on Sunday with a final round of 18 holes.
