Cowgirl Golfers win TOPY Cup by 25 strokes
April 18, 2003 | Cowgirl Golf
Oklahoma State had three golfers finish in the top four as sophomore Annie Thurman finished third with a three-round total of 212, and senior Linda Wessberg finished fourth with a 215. Fellow senior Christi Cano finished 11th with a 220, and sophomore Jenny Karr shot a 229, good enough for 17th place.
The Cowgirls as a team shot a three-day total of 850, and finished 25 strokes ahead of second-place Ohio State. The 850 score is the best in school history by 23 strokes. The previous best was an 873 at the 1999 Shootout at the Legends.
Sjödin placed her name at the top of two Cowgirl golf lists. Her 65 during the first round was the best single-round score ever by an OSU golfer. The previous best was a 66 by LPGA member Val Skinner at the 1981 Sooner Invitational. Sjödins 208 bettered the previous low of 210, set by Alicia Ogrin at the Houston Baptist Collegiate 25 years ago.
Thurmans 212 ties for the third-best tournament total in school history, tying Maria Bodén, who shot a 212 at the 2000 Utah-Dixie Classic.
Oklahoma State will return to action on Sept. 15, as the Cowgirls compete in the NCAA National Preview in West Lafayette, Ind., home of the 2003 NCAA Championships.
