Soccer Defeats Oral Roberts, 3-1

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State started the 2002 season on a positive note, defeating Oral Roberts, 3-1, here Friday at the ORU Soccer Complex.
Both teams got off to a sluggish start but OSU was the first to work the kinks out of its game, finding the back of the net for the first time at the 20:19 mark.
Kim Graves and Jolene Schweitzer combined for the inaugural Cowgirl goal of the 2002 season when Schweitzer ran up the left flank and shot the ball back to Kim Graves in the middle for the score.
OSU continued to roll when Nikki Wojtowicz was awarded a free kick from 40 yards out exactly 12 minutes later. Wojtowicz sent the ball into the center of the field and Jere Boykin buried the ball in the back of the net.
As the first period was winding down, Krista Dedmon passed the ball to Schweitzer and she dribbled the ball in from 20 yards out, beating the ORU defender one-on-one for the goal.
The Golden Eagles avoided the shutout when Heidi Ritze found the back of the net in the 63rd minute of the contest.
Kat Doud went the distance in goal, recording four saves en route to the win.
Oklahoma State (1-0) returns to the ORU Soccer Complex to face Tulsa at 6 p.m. in game two of the Oklahoma Shootout.
