Auburn, Wash. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl golf team was just five-over-par on the day before a rain shower hit during the final four holes, and OSU finished with a 15-over 303 and dropped 10 spots to 19th at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships here Wednesday afternoon.
"Fifteen holes were pretty good today," said OSU Head Coach Amy Weeks. "Its too bad we didn't finish well. We weren't able to get enough low numbers to offset the bogeys we were shooting."
Junior Linda Wessberg was one-under before bogeying the final four holes during the rain shower. She finished with a three over 75 and is in 66th place with a 152.
Fellow junior Christi Cano was three over after the first two holes, and also had a double bogey on the back nine finishing with a 77. She is tied for 76th with a 153 over the first two days.
Freshman Jenny Karr was even through the first five holes and had five-consecutive pars before shooting a bogey on the final hole. She matched her score of 75 from day one and is tied for 50th with a 150.
Senior Emma Zackrisson was two over through 16 holes, but shot a double bogey on the par-three eighth hole and finished with a 76. Freshman Annie Thurman had one birdie and seven bogeys to finish with a 78. Both have a 151 through two days, tying for 57th place.
Arizona is still the team leader, but lost three strokes to second-place Duke, and leads the Blue Devils by six strokes. Georgia and Oklahoma, which shot a one-over-par 289 during Wednesday's round, are tied for third. Florida rounds out the top-five teams, carding a 589.
"I would hope that we wouldn't let the weather be a factor," said Weeks. "We should just go out there and play golf, and do the best we can. And, I think we did that. But, I would like us to be able to play those last four holes without the rain."
