Cowgirl Golfers Earn Top Seed In Central Regional

Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's sixth-ranked Cowgirl golf team has been selected as the top seed in the 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Central Regional Championships, it was announced today. The tournament will take place on May 9-11 at the Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Three regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the championships field.
OSU was seeded ahead of No. 2 Tulsa, third-seed Texas and No. 4 Ohio State, despite being ranked behind all three teams in the Golfweek.com poll. Other teams of interest in the Central Regional are the Big 12's Oklahoma (eighth seed), Baylor (10th), Nebraska (16th) and Kansas State (18th). Texas A&M is the No. 15 seed in the East, while Oral Roberts is the 20th seed in the West.
Auburn earned the top seed in the East Regional despite finishing second to South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference Championships. Auburn has finished first or second in every tournament it has competed in the last two years. Arizona, the Pac-10 champions, earned the top seed in the West Regional.
Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional to the NCAA Championships. The national finals will be held May 21-24, at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash.
