COWGIRLS TO COMPETE IN BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Golf team will travel to Manhattan, Kan., this week to compete in the sixth-annual Big 12 Golf Championships. The tournament will be held at the Colbert Hills Golf Course on Friday-Sunday, April 19-21. OSU will serve as the defending champion at the tournament, having won the 2001 title by six strokes over runnerup Texas. Oklahoma State has won two of the five Big 12 Championships, and has won 16 conference titles in all. The Cowgirls will compete in Group 3 on Friday along with Oklahoma and Baylor. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. each day on the 6,067-yard, par 72 course.
OKLAHOMA STATE AT THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
Oklahoma State's women's golf team has finished in the top five in all five Big 12 Championships, including victories in both 1999 and in 2001. Both years that OSU won the team title, Maria Bod?n won individual medalist honors as well. Last year, she took the title with a birdie on the first hole of a three-person playoff. The Cowgirls' best team score at the Big 12 Championships was a 906 in 1999 in Boulder, Colo.
OSU VERSUS THE FIELD
Oklahoma State is 20-4 overall vs. the Big 12 opponents, good for an 83.3 winning percentage. OSU is undefeated vs. Texas Tech (3-0), Baylor, Missouri and Texas A&M (2-0), Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska (1-0). The Cowgirls are 2-1 vs. Oklahoma and 4-3 vs. Texas. Over the last two years - the Amy Weeks' era - Oklahoma State is an impressive 66-11 (.857 percent) vs. the Big 12 Conference. That includes a 46-7 mark in 2000-01.
COWGIRLS RANK HIGH IN BIG 12
Christi Cano, Emma Zackrisson and Linda Wessberg rank third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the latest Big 12 individual stroke averages. Cano and Zackrisson are both tied for third with a 74.93 strokes-per-round average, while Wessberg ranks fifth with a 75.03 strokes-per-round average. All three are vying for All-Big 12 and Conference Player-of-the-Year honors.
TRIO RANKED IN THE TOP-25 NATIONALLY
The aforementioned trio has also garnered national attention as all three are ranked in the top-25 individually. All three are tied for 24th with a 73.46 overall rating, according to GolfWeek.com's rankings. In fact, Oklahoma State joins Auburn as the only two schools with three golfers ranked in the top 25. Auburn has four in the top 30, while Duke has three in the top 30. Tulsa, Pepperdine, Georgia and USC each have two players ranked in the top 30.
OSU AT THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
In the 26-year history of the Big Eight/Big 12 Tournament, Oklahoma State has won the team title an impressive 16 times, including six consecutive from 1984-89. Seventeen Cowgirls have won individual medalist honors, including nine consecutive from 1982-90. In the 26-yard history of the event, OSU has never finished lower than fifth place, and has had 22 champion or runnerup finishes.
2001 BIG 12 INVITATIONAL

The closest Big 12 competitor was Texas, which finished sixth with a 941. Junior Christi Cano finished second at the event, while junior Linda Wessberg finished fifth and senior Emma Zackrisson seventh. Freshman Annie Thurman finished 14th in the tournament, and freshman Jenny Karr finished 48th.
2001 BIG 12 TOURNAMENT RECAP
After a two-way tie with Texas after two rounds, Oklahoma State broke out a final-round 295 to take a six-stroke win over the Longhorns at last year's Big 12 Tournament. OSU's 295 was the only sub-300 round of the tournament, while UT shot a 301 for the second-lowest round of the tournament. Senior Maria Bod?n won individual medalist honors with a birdie on the first hole of a three-person playoff, carding a 227. Junior Emma Zackrisson and sophomore Linda Wessberg finished sixth and seventh, respectively, earning All-Tournament honors.
LAST TIME IN THE LITTLE APPLE
