Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Ivan McFarlin and Melvin Sanders each recorded a double-double, and senior guard Victor Williams scored a game-high 19 points as the Cowboys defeated Branch West Basketball Academy, 78-56, in their final exhibition game of the preseason here Monday night.
McFarlin finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds while Sanders also scored 14 points and grabbed 11 boards. As a team, the Cowboys outrebounded Branch West, 51-30.
Williams scored 12 of his 19 points from beyond the arc, where he was 4-of-7. That was also from an extended three-point line, moved to 20 feet, 6 inches, under the experimental rules.
Doug Gottlieb, a member of OSU's 2000 Elite Eight squad, had eight assists for Branch West, but was just 1-of-7 from the floor. Durelle Brown and Nate Poindexter led Branch West with 15 points each.
Oklahoma State shot 52.8 percent from the floor in the first half, but connected on just 14-of-35 shoots in the second period and finished at 46.5 percent for the game. The Cowboys' stifling defense limited Branch West to just 33.3 percent shooting for the game.
OSU, 2-0 in exhibition play, will open the regular season on Friday night as the Cowboys host Yale in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
