STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Melvin Sanders scored 18 points to help lead Oklahoma State to a 68-59 victory over Yale Friday night.
Andre Williams had a double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the Cowboys (1-0) got double-digit scoring from five players.
Ahead by two with just under 14 minutes to play, OSU went on a 17-4 run to open up a 59-44 lead.
The rally was sparked by a layup and two 3-pointers by Sanders, and capped when Sanders stepped through a Yale pass and took the steal in for a breakaway dunk with 8:07 to play. Sanders had four 3-pointers on the night and chipped in eight rebounds.
Then the Cowboys went cold and didn't score again until Ivan McFarlin's layup made it 61-50 with 1:14 left on the clock.
Yale (0-1) didn't have much more success at the offensive end, shooting 38.2 percent from the field, and failing to capitalize on OSU's drought.
Paul Vitelli led Yale with 15 point and six rebounds.
The Cowboys shot 41.4 percent from the field but won the rebound battle 43-30.
The Cowboys took a 33-32 lead into halftime when Williams hit a 15-foot fadeaway jumper at the buzzer.
