Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team has been ranked No. 1 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, it was announced today, in the most recent poll. OSU outdistanced second-place Arizona by 28/100ths of a point.
"I'm proud of our play, to date," said OSU head coach Amy Weeks. "I believe we will continue to improve, and we have a long and exciting season ahead of us. We are looking forward to the competition of the upcoming year."
It is the second time in school history that the team has reached the top spot. The Cowgirls achieved a No. 1 ranking following a 33-stroke win in the Big Eight Championships in the spring of 1987.
OSU is 17-1 this season, with its only loss coming to Arizona in the NCAA National Preview. Following the Wildcats is No. 3 Vanderbilt, fourth-ranked Auburn, and Duke rounds out the top five.
Individually, Cowgirl freshman Karin Sj?din is ranked third nationally behind Katherine Hull of Pepperdine and Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum. OSU sophomore Annie Thurman is seventh, and a pair of Cowgirl seniors, Christi Cano and Linda Wessberg, are ranked 36th and 44th, respectively.
