Bod?n Nominated For NCAA Woman Of The Year

Stillwater, Okla. - Maria Bod?n, a senior on this year's women's golf team, has been named as Oklahoma State's nomination for the NCAA Woman of the Year, it was announced today. Bod?n qualified for the nomination by excelling in all three criteria involved.
The award honors senior student-athletes whose eligibility is completed by June 2001 for their achievements in service and leadership, athletics and academics.
Bod?n, a native of Harnosand, Sweden, finished 10th at the NCAA Championships in May, leading her team to a fifth-place finish, the highest by a Cowgirl golf squad since 1989. She was named a second-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Bod?n also excelled in the classroom during her career at Oklahoma State, earning District VI Academic All-America honors this season.
Her service and leaderdship qualities can be seen throughout her extensive volunteer work. She has been actively involved in the Oklahoma City Memorial fundraiser, the Best of America, the Relay for Life, and Special Olympics. She was also a director involved in the Easter Carnival in conjunction with the Stillwater Parks and Recreation department.
Bod?n will spend the remainder of the summer competing in Sweden before returning to Stillwater in August for her final year of school.
The state-level awardees will be announced in August, with the 10 national finalists announced in September. The NCAA Woman of the Year and the 51 winners representing each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will be honored at a dinner in Indianapolis on Oct. 21, 2001.
