Cowgirl Softball Falls To Missouri, 4-0

Stillwater, Okla. - Missouri pitcher Stephanie Falk threw a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits as the Tigers defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 4-0, here Sunday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action. The win improves Falk's record to 18-13 on the year.
The Tigers struck early, scoring their first run of the game in the top of the first. Sara Vassmer led off with a single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Karen Williams. Vassmer took third on a wild pitch by Cowgirl starter Tiffany Paper and, with two outs, scored when Rachael McGinnis reached on an error by third baseman Jenny Kipp.
Paper didn't allow a runner past first bas for the next three innings, before walking Lindsey Jacoby with one out in the fifth. McGinnis followed that up with a triple to right centerfield, scoring Jacoby. McGinnis then scored on a single up the middle by Melanie Fisher, making the score 3-0.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh when Karen Williams led off with a slap hit that got through the left side and past both outfielders for a triple. She scored on a sacrifice fly by McGinnis, her second RBI of the game.
Oklahoma State's only scoring threat came in the bottom of the first. With two outs, senior Amanda Hayes hit a single to right center, followed by a Ryan Realmuto walk. However, Stephanie Hodges popped up to the second baseman to end the inning. OSU got a runner on base in four other innings, but no Cowgirl got past first base the remainder of the game.
Oklahoma State (19-16 overall, 4-5 Big 12) will take a break from conference action as the Cowgirls host the Border War series with Tulsa and Arkansas on Wednesday, April 11, beginning at 3 p.m. Missouri (23-20, 3-5) will host Evansville in a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 2 p.m.
