OU To Host 2001 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team will host the 2001 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic April 9-10, at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman. Fifteen teams will compete in the tournament, including five Big 12 teams that the Sooners will compete against at the Big 12 Championships in two weeks. The Susie Maxwell Berning field will consist of Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Kansas State, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UTEP and Wichita State.
The Sooners will be looking for strong preformances from Lisa Meldrum, who finished fourth at the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament last week, and Allison Johnson, who placed second at both the Pioneer Electronic Bruin Classic and the Verizon "Mo" Morial Invitational. Also competing for Oklahoma will be Kellie Jamison, Marsha Gonzaga, Betsy Berry, Jennifer James, Wendy Martin, Jennifer Tannehill and Hope Edge.
The format will consist of 36 holes on Monday, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Tuesday's 18-hole play will begin with tee times also at 8 a.m. Last year's tournament champion Nebraska will be back to defend its title in only its second appearance at this tournament. Last year's individual winner was Ali Brewer from Baylor, who won with a score of 222.
