Cowgirl Softball Splits Four Games in Arizona Classic

Tucson, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's 30th-ranked softball team split four games late Friday and early Saturday morning here in the Arizona/Pepsi Softball Classic, hosted by third-ranked Arizona. The Cowgirls lost to the Wildcats, 7-0, before defeating New Mexico State, 4-3, late Friday night. OSU lost to Pacific, 3-2, and defeated Bowling Green, 2-0, Saturday morning.
In the first game, Oklahoma State lost to No. 3 Arizona as Jenny Finch struck out 12 OSU batters. McKenzie Vandergeest hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the `Cats a 7-0 win. UA had defeated Bowling Green, 29-0, earlier in the day.
In game two, OSU senior Amanda Hayes hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the come-from-behind victory over NMSU, 4-3. The Cowgirls had scored two runs in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk by Lezli Leathers and a two-out single by Casey O'Neill.
In the early game Saturday morning, Oklahoma State left 13 runners stranded as Pacific took advantage of an early 2-0 lead and defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2. Mandy Lowry hit a two-run dinger in the bottom of the first to give the Boxers the 2-0 lead.
In OSU's last game Saturday, Cowgirl hurler Lauren Bay threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters as the Cowgirls defeated Bowling Green, 2-0. Bay gave up just one hit and one walk. OSU scored its two runs in the second and third innings on an RBI single by Jade Lindly and a one-out double by Ryan Realmuto. Realmuto was 5-for-7 on the day.
Oklahoma State (4-5) will play Kentucky on Sunday at noon CST.
