Cowgirl Golf Opens 2001 Season In California

Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 20th-ranked women's golf team will begin the 2001 season this week as the Cowgirls compete in the TRW Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State University.
The tournament is being played at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., playing to a 5,912 yard par 71. It will begin Monday at 9 a.m. with a round of 18 holes. The tournament will continue on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with another round of 18, followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Wednesday for the final 18 holes.
The Cowgirls are one of 18 teams competing in the tournament, and one of 15 that are ranked in the latest edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf rankings. Other teams competing in the event are No. 2 Arizona, fourth-ranked USC, No. 5 Stanford, seventh-ranked Texas, No. 8 Tulsa, and 10th-ranked Pepperdine
Also entered in the tournament are No. 12 New Mexico State, 14th-ranked Purdue, No. 16 Ohio State, 17th-ranked UCLA, No. 18 Michigan State, 19th-ranked Arizona State, No. 21 South Carolina and 23rd-ranked TCU. Other teams competing are Florida, New Mexico and San Jose State.
Individually, OSU's Maria Bod?n is ranked as the 12th-bes golfer in the country according to the MasterCard rankings. Bod?n is joined on the team this weekend by Emma Zackrisson, Linda Wessberg, Christi Cano and JoAnn Heller.
