Hawaii Runs Past Cowgirls at Rainbow Wahine Classic, 72-62

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Hawaii's basketball team used a spectacular first-half shooting effort to defeat Oklahoma State 72-62 on Sunday evening in the third-place game at the Panda Travel Rainbow Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (4-1) shot a blistering 77.3 (17-of-22) percent from the floor in the first stanza, including a 71.4 (5-of-7) clip from the three-point line, to take a 42-27 advantage into the intermission.
Guard Janka Gabrielova led the way, hitting all five of her shots in the stanza and pouring in Hawaii's first nine points. The sophomore finished the game with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 3-for-3 effort from three-point range.
The host school built the lead to 18 before OSU (3-3) chipped away, knocking the deficit down to 12 on a basket by senior Nikki Lawrence. However, Gabrielova answered with a three-pointer to push the lead back to 15 with 13:42 remaining in the game.
After the Rainbow Wahine built the lead to 20, OSU sophomore Trisha Skibbe reeled off five consecutive points followed by back-to-back treys from seniors Terrisha Osborn and Tari Cummings. The spurt fueled an 11-2 run cut the margin to 11 with two minutes remaining before the two squads traded baskets the rest of the way.
Skibbe and senior Kara Faulk led the way offensively for OSU, scoring 18 points apiece.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 8 when they host Southeastern Louisiana at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
