Cowgirl Basketball Rolls Past Southeastern Louisiana, 84-58

Playing their first home game in three weeks, the Cowgirls (4-3) went on a 14-2 run to build an early first-half lead. During the stretch, OSU forced the Lady Lions (1-6) into four of their 21 turnovers in the contest.
At the 6:38 mark, junior Thia Willis knocked down her second three-point basket of the game to give OSU a 15-point advantage at 31-16. SLU's Shanna Achord narrowed the gap to 11 with a three-pointer nearly three minutes later before the Cowgirls' Chantoya Hawkins answered with a trey at the 1:52 mark to provide the final points of the half and give OSU a 40-26 halftime lead.
In her first start of the season, senior Kara Faulk was part of a balanced attack that saw five Cowgirls score six points in the half. The Sapulpa, Okla., native narrowly missed her second double-double of the season, tallying 11 points and a game-high nine boards in the contest.
In the second stanza, OSU held the Lady Lions without a point for a five-minute stretch that saw its lead grow to 27 points. The Cowgirls turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, causing 13 turnovers and building the lead to 34 on two occasions.
SLU's Ann Webster, who finished with a game-high 19 points, scored six consecutive points to pull the Lady Lions back within 25 at 66-41, but they would get no closer.
Willis hit a jumper with 2:38 remaining to make the score 84-52 before SLU went on a 6-0 run to finish the game.
Senior Tari Cummings paced OSU offensively, scoring 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 17 when they take on Northern Arizona at 6 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
