STILLWATER, Okla. Oklahoma State's 50th-ranked tennis team ran its winning streak to four consecutive matches on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Texas Tech at the DuBois Tennis Center.
OSU, 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play, jumped out to an early lead, taking two of three doubles matches from the Red Raiders to claim the contest's first point. With the loss, Texas Tech fell to 8-11 and 2-5.
OSU's 53rd-ranked doubles squad of Eru Lyndon and Matt Prentice paced the Cowboys with their 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot. The win improved the duo's record to 11-3 on the year.
"Our No. 1 and no. 2 doubles played as well as they have all year. I thought (Chris) Bates and Fran (Krepelka) really lit it up on some good shots," Cowboy head coach James Wadley said.
"Matt and Eru returned very well and when they got into the point, their shot selection was really good. I was really pleased with our doubles."
In singles play, the Cowboys reeled off four consecutive wins at the top four positions to put the match out of reach. Picking up straight-set wins for the Pokes were Prentice, Lyndon, Bates and Krepelka. Krepelka, a sophomore from Slovakia, pushed his season mark to 13-1.
"It was a lot tougher match than 5-2 indicated. Matt had a tough match at No. 1 and I was pleased with Eru. You could tell he is close to coming back to full strength," Wadley said.
"Bates really came through for us today and Fran is just mowing them down. It doesn't matter who he plays right now, he is on top of his game."
The Cowboys will return to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. showdown against Nebraska at the DuBois Tennis Center.
