LINCOLN, Neb. - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow scored a game-high 30 points, including two clutch free throws with 1.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but the Cowgirls lost, 75-71, here Tuesday night before 3,859 fans in the Devaney Sports Center.
A typical day at the office for Crow, she hit 9-of-20 shots from the floor, including two in overtime to score all five OSU points in OT. She also hit eight-consecutive free throws after missing her first, including the two with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation.
Four Cowgirls scored in double figures as the five starters scored 70-of-71 points in the game. The only scoring from the bench came on a Kara Faulk free throw. The bench did, however, grab 14 of the team's 40 rebounds.
Oklahoma State led by as many as 10 in the second half, the last time at the 7:23 mark. Nebraska's Nicole Kubik scored 11 points over the next 1:30, including seven free throws, to cut OSU's lead to 57-54.
The Cowgirls had their last lead in regulation with 3:10 remaining, ahead 62-61. Kubik then hit a three pointer, her only trey of the game, to put NU ahead, 64-62. OSU tied the game with two Crow free throws, but the Huskers took a 66-64 lead with seven seconds remaining when Charlie Rogers was fouled by Mandy Stuber, and hit both shots.
After a Nebraska timeout, Crow drove the right baseline and missed a layup, but got her own rebound, and was fouled by Melody Peterson, her fifth, with 1.8 remaining. Crow hit both, and Nebraska never got a shot off.
In overtime, Crow made a three-pointer with 1:49 remaining to put OSU ahead, 71-70. NU missed three-point attempts on its next two possessions, but the Cowgirls turned the ball over both times, attempting a fastbreak pass to Jessica Bates. Both passes were high and went out-of-bounds.
Down by one, Stuber attempted a three that fell short and left, and Brook Schwartz made 3-of-4 free throws in the last :12 seconds for the win.
Oklahoma State (13-13 overall, 5-9 Big 12) will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26, as the Cowgirls host the Texas Tech Lady Raiders in OSU's final home game of the season. Senior Jennifer Crow will be recognized as she concludes a spectacular career at Oklahoma State.
