STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State senior Jennifer Crow scored a team-high 21 points, but Texas Tech's Amber Tarr scored 22 as the seventh-ranked Lady Raiders defeated the Cowgirls, 83-75, on Senior Day before 2,507 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Crow scored 13 of her points in the second period, despite being in obvious pain. She fell to the floor hard in the first half attempting to take a charge, and was later fouled in the second half and landed hard again.
Sophomore center Jessica Bates had a career-best 19 points and 12 rebounds for the second double-double of her OSU career. TTU's Keitha Dickerson, out of Elk City, Okla., had eight points and matched Bates for the game high with 12 rebounds.
After Tech took an early 7-3 lead, the Cowgirls went on a tear, outscoring the Lady Raiders, 16-4, and taking a 19-11 lead. OSU led by as many as 12 points in the first half, and entered the lockerroom ahead, 38-33. In the period, OSU had 12 fastbreak points to TTU's zero.
Oklahoma State returned to a 12-point lead at the 15:05 mark at 47-35, but Texas Tech kept chipping away, tying the game at 53 with 10:41 remaining. Tech later led by as many as 10, but Crow and the Cowgirls would not go away, cutting the lead to five with 20 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by Crow. TTU hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds for the final score.
"The only other thing that we could ask for would be a win," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "I feel like our kids have really focused since we got back from Baylor. We've had better practices and we've made some strides in the right direction. Its kind of a shame that it came at this time of the year, I guess."
Texas Tech (23-3 overall, 12-3 Big 12) remains in first place in the league, tied with Oklahoma and Iowa State, which both won today. Oklahoma State falls to 13-14 overall, 5-10 in the conference and tied with Kansas State in eighth place. OSU will travel to Norman, Okla., on Wednesday, March 1, for a bedlam game with the 24th-ranked Sooners.
