STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State used a balanced attack from both the guards and post play as the Cowgirls defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 77-40, here Monday night in the final non-conference women's basketball game for OSU this season.
Senior Jennifer Crow made her average, scoring 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor, including five three-pointers. Freshman Chantoya Hawkins added 15, while Kara Faulk pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Cowgirls took an early eight-point lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 23 in the first half. Crow scored 16 of her points in the first period.
The Islanders made a minor comeback early in the second half, cutting the lead to 16 points three minutes into the period. But, Oklahoma State's bench played a major role in the half, scoring 21 points, including nine by Reba Johnson in just six minutes of play.
Oklahoma State outrebounded TAMUCC, 46-31, including 21 offensive boards. The Cowgirls also forced 31 turnovers.
"We knew coming into this game that they (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) had some pretty strong post play," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "They only lost to Texas A&M by two, and they've got some pretty good players. They'll be good in the future."
Islander Kristin Rogers, a Mannford, Okla., product, led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Bryant, a freshman from Norman, Okla., added eight.
Oklahoma State (8-4) will open Big 12 Conference action on Saturday as the Cowgirls travel to College Station, Texas, to face the Texas A&M Lady Aggies (8-2). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
