Cowgirls Finish Third at Spartan Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. - Oklahoma State's sixth-ranked Cowgirl golf team used a final- round score of 302 to move into third place on the final day of the SJSU Spartan Invitational here Wednesday afternoon. The Cowgirls moved six strokes ahead of San Jose State, the host school, but finished 31 strokes behind team champion Tulsa.
JoJo Robertson finished tied for third with a round of 73 on the final day, finishing with a 54-hole total of 226, just two strokes behind individual medalist Niina Laitinen of Tulsa. Laitinen led the entire tournament, but had to shoot a 77 on the final day for the one-stroke win.
Oklahoma State's entire squad finished in the top 25, with Lotta Stromlid finishing 16th and Maria Bodn 18th. Freshman Emma Zackrisson finished 20th, while Natasha Rowe finished 22nd. All five Cowgirls shot in the 70's on the final day.
Third-ranked Tulsa won the team title with a three-round score of 910. Arizona State, ranked eighth in the latest edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf rankings, finished second with a 928. Oklahoma State shot 941 as a team, while SJSU finished with a 947. Washington State rounded out the top five with a 954.
Robertson, a senior from Roswell, N.M., finished the tournament ranked eighth in par-3 scoring, second in par-4 and ninth in par-5 scoring. She also had the second-most pars in the tournament with 35. Only Tulsa's Stacy Rambin and Caroline Laurens of Arizona State had more pars, both with 36. Robertson also had five birdies in the tournament.
Oklahoma State will return to action March 23-25 as the Cowgirls travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, to compete in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
