STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team shot 24-of-32 from the free-throw line, including a school-record 12-of-12 performance by senior Jennifer Crow, as OSU defeated Lamar, 68-49, here Friday afternoon in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Crow's perfection on 12 trips to the line broke the previous record of 10-of-10, set by Crista Troester in 1983 and duplicated four times, most recently by Cheri Edwards in 1998.
The Corn, Okla., native was not the leading scorer, however, as junior Tari Cummings poured in a game-high 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the second double-double of her young Cowgirl career. Freshman Chantoya Hawkins pitched in 11 points for OSU.
The game was not an impressive one, however. Oklahoma State committed 26 turnovers with Lamar turned the ball over 28 times. There were also 45 fouls called in the game, including 29 on the Cardinals.
"I'm really disappointed in how we played," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "I felt like we really struggled to get anything accomplished. I thought Lamar really did a good job at checking us everywhere we wanted to go. It was really an ugly game."
OSU shot just 30.8 percent in the first half, compared to 36.8 by Lamar. However, the Cowgirls did shoot better in the second period, connecting on 11-of-25 shots for 44.0 percent.
"Defensively, I thought we were very aggressive," said Lamar Coach DeAnn Craft. "I thought we managed to disrupt their flow a little bit, but because of our overzealousness, we put a fundamentally good shooting team at the line too much. I think the free-throw picture tells the story."
Oklahoma State (2-1) will take nine days off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to the court on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. in Norman, Okla., in the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic vs. Tulsa.
"We've got nine days off, and I think we'll be a lot better when we open back up again," said Halterman. "We've got to get a lot better running our offense than what we are."
