Cowgirl Golf in third after opening day of NCAA Championship
May 22, 2026 | Cowgirl Golf
CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Oklahoma State women's golf team opened play at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship on Friday, ending the day in third place with three golfers at par or better.
The Cowgirls combined for a 5-under 283, Oklahoma State's lowest round at the national championship since its first-round 280 in 2023. OSU trails first-place USC by two shots and second-place Stanford by one heading into the weekend.
Granite Bay native Ellie Bushnell thrived in her return to her home state, going 4-under to card a 68. Bushnell recorded six birdies on the day and carried an unblemished scorecard through 15 holes. Currently in a tie with Stanford's Megha Ganne atop the individual leaderboard, Bushnell's third birdie of the day marked the 300th of her career.
Breakout junior Marta Silchenko added yet another under-par round to her resume on Friday, playing to the tune of a bogey-free 2-under 70. The round marked Silchenko's 18th at par-or-better this season, now just four off program record-holders Maja Stark, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Caroline Hedwall's single-season bests.
Summer Lee was the third and final Cowgirl to play at par-or-better, adding an even-par 72. Lee now has eight such rounds this season, marking a new career high for the sophomore.
True freshman Yu-Chu Chen went 1-over for a 73 in her national championship debut. Chen's five birdies tied for seventh-most among the 156-player field.
Tarapath Panya rounded out the OSU lineup with a steady 74 (+2). The sophomore was 4-over through her first four holes but rebounded quickly with five birdies over her next nine.
The Cowgirls return to action Saturday, beginning at 11:50 a.m. PST, for the second round of the NCAA Championship. Oklahoma State will be paired with 11th-place Arizona State and 18th-place Florida State.
