Oklahoma State is ranked No. 18 in the GoRout/NFCA Coaches Poll. The ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 ranks the Cowgirls at No. 17, while Softball America has the Pokes at No. 12 and D1Softball has OSU at No. 12. In the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), the Cowgirls are No. 14.
Tulsa is unranked while the Jayhawks are receiving votes in both of the national polls.
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State Softball is playing some of the best softball of any team in the country and has placed itself square into the mix for a national seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament. The Cowgirls are 17-3 in their last 20 contests and have six ranked wins in that span, including wins over then-No. 1/1 Oklahoma (in Oklahoma City) and then-No. 7/4 Texas (in Austin).
On the season, the Pokes hold 11 wins over ranked opponents, including four wins over opponents ranked in the Top 10 of the RPI. OSU averages 6.43 runs per game, which would set a new program record if the season ended today.
Two-time All-American Ruby Meylan has won each of her last 16 decisions. She ranks in the top 10 among all DI active players in career pitching appearances (154, third), innings pitched (707.0, fifth) and strikeouts (758, seventh) and is piecing together another All-America-level season. She leads all Power Four pitchers in innings pitched (193.2) and leads the Big 12 in wins (23) while ranking third in strikeouts (177).
Veterans Claire Timm, Rosie Davis and Amanda Hasler have been playing at an All-Big 12 level, with Timm ranking among the top 25 in the conference in batting average (.360) and on-base percentage (.458), and the latter two combining for 44 extra-base hits and 92 RBI. Freshmen Jayelle Austin, Preslee Downing and Aubrey Jones have all made immediate impacts, with Austin pacing the team in walks, Jones ranking among the team leaders in most offensive statistics, and Downing posting a 5-0 record in the circle in her freshman campaign.
