Cowboy Basketball signs dynamic guard Jacob Walker
April 23, 2026 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz officially announced the signing of Jacob Walker, a 6-foot-1 guard from Memphis, Tennessee, to the Cowboys' 2026-27 roster.
Walker arrives in Stillwater after a standout freshman campaign at Sam Houston, where he earned Conference USA Sixth-Man of the Year honors while also collecting honorable mention all-conference and all-freshman team recognition.
Lutz said:
"Jacob is a dynamic guard who plays with pace, toughness and confidence. He has a natural ability to put pressure on the rim, and that shows up in how often he gets to the free throw line. We love his competitiveness, his scoring instincts and the way he finished the season. He's a guy who can impact winning in a lot of different ways, and we're excited to add him to our backcourt."
Walker appeared in all 34 games for a Bearkat team that won 22 regular season contests, finished runner-up in the Conference USA standings and earned a berth in the NIT. He made 12 starts and averaged 11.5 points and 2.5 assists in 25.7 minutes per game, reaching the 20-point mark six times.
He closed the season on a strong note after moving into the starting lineup full-time, scoring at least 12 points in each of his final 11 games while averaging better than 17 points per contest during that stretch.
A physical, downhill guard, Walker excelled at drawing contact and getting to the foul line. He converted 119-of-159 free throws (.748) and ranked 79th nationally in free throw rate, per KenPom, while finishing among Conference USA's top-10 in fouls drawn (5.2 per 40 minutes). He also knocked down 39 three-pointers at a 35.8 percent clip.
Walker helped set the pace for a Sam Houston squad that ranked 36th nationally in adjusted tempo and led Conference USA in fastbreak scoring. He also had a strong showing in Gallagher-Iba Arena, scoring 17 points during the Bearkats' Dec. 2 visit to Stillwater.
At OSU, Walker will be reunited with his former high school teammate Mekhi Ragland. They played together as seniors at Sunrise Christian Academy near Wichita, Kansas, competing in the EYBL Scholastic League against many of the nation's top prospects. Walker averaged 11.8 points, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Buffaloes during the 2024-25 season.
Walker began his high school career at First Assembly Christian School in Memphis, where he was part of two state championship teams and helped the program to a 73-11 record over three seasons. As a junior, he averaged more than 20 points per game, earning all-state honors in Division II Class A and second team All-Metro recognition from the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He also earned all-state tournament honors after helping his team rally from a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to win a state title.
During the summer of 2024, Walker starred on the Adidas circuit with Hoop City Elite and was ranked among Tennessee's top-10 prospects by Prep Hoops.
Walker is the latest addition to a Cowboy program coming off a 20-win season and a second consecutive postseason appearance under Lutz.
