Cowboys Complete Comeback against No. 14 San Diego

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team overcame No. 14 San Diego, 4-3, in a three-and-a-half-hour battle Tuesday afternoon at Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys moved to 11-3 on the 2025-2026 campaign as they improved to 9-0 at home for the second time during the Dustin Taylor era, while San Diego dropped to 8-4. OSU continues to score big in matches, netting 73 total team points, the most points through 14 matches since 1981. The win marks the Cowboy's highest ranked win since March 16th, 2024, where they took down No. 11 Illinois.
In a fiercely competitive doubles round, the Cowboys came up short, pushing it to tiebreakers on two courts before the point was decided, with San Diego taking it on courts two and three. With doubles settled, OSU's Charlie Valentine and Derek Pham's match on court one went unfinished at six games apiece against San Diego's 73rd-ranked pairing.
Heading into singles play, San Diego would go up 3-1, taking courts one and four.
OSU junior Pham put the Cowboys on the board, beating 105th-ranked Stian Klaassen, 6-1, 7-5. The win marks Pham's fourth win in four tries on court three and his first ranked win of the spring. Haydar Gokpinar brought the energy for the Cowboys as he improved to 11-1 in the campaign, besting San Diego's Adrien Berrut, 7-6, 6-1.
The match came down to two third sets on courts two and five. Starting with a back-and-forth contest on court two, Nicolas Kobelt battled it out till the end, defeating Vincent Marysko, 7-5, 6-7, 6-1. On court five, Ian Bracks sealed the win for the Cowboys as he improved to 9-2 on the season, beating Lambert Ruland, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The Cowboys will return to action against South Florida at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday night at 5 p.m.
