Cowboys drop match at BYU
March 14, 2026 | Cowboy Tennis
Provo, Utah — The Oklahoma State men's tennis team fell to BYU, 4-2, on Saturday evening at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The loss moves the Pokes to 14-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while BYU improves to 13-3 (1-1). Despite the loss, the Cowboys still have the most team points through 19 matches since 1991.
The Cowboys got off to a fast start in Provo. OSU's Derek Pham and Charlie Valentine started it off by sweeping Tygen Goldammer and TJ Wells, 6-0, to claim their second doubles win in three days.
The pairing of Nicolas Kobelt and Aaron Williams capped off the doubles point with a 7-5 win over BYU's Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner. Kobelt and Williams claim their team-high 11th win as a duo this season and improve to 3-0 on court one. Alessio Basile and Haydar Gokpinar were two points away from a win against the Cougars' pairing of Hardy Owen and Caden Hasler, but with the doubles point settled, the match went unfinished, 5-4.
The Cougars claimed wins on courts two and three before sending a staggering four matches into third sets. Court six went to the Cougars, setting up a scenario where the Cowboys needed all three third sets still left on the board.
The captain of the team, Basile, came back after dropping his first set to take down Chodur, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. With the match on the line, BYU clinched it with a win on court five. Ian Bracks played a tight match, but went unfinished with the match settled.
The Cowboys return to action in one week as they take on Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, at 2 p.m. on March 21.
