OSU Clinches Best Start in GTC History with Win Over Penn
March 10, 2026 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's tennis team rounded out nonconference play with a 4-3 win over Penn on Tuesday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center to improve to 11-0 at home, the best start since the GTC was built in 2013-14.
In their first home outdoor match, the Cowboys improve to 13-4 on the 2026 season, while Penn drops to 9-5. OSU has yet to fall to a team at home, outscoring its opponents 69-8. The Pokes are now 3-0 all-time against the Quakers.
The Cowboys started off strong, taking the doubles point in convincing fashion. Starting on court two, the duo of OSU's Aaron Williams and Nicolas Kobelt picked up win No. 10 on the season, defeating Penn's Vojtech Vales and Shaurya Bharadwaj, 6-3. Shortly after, OSU's Alessio Basile and Haydar Gokpinar picked up the doubles point for the Cowboys with a 6-3 victory over Parashar Bharadwaj and Matthew Rutter, 6-3.
Although the doubles point was settled, Derek Pham and Charlie Valentine played a solid doubles match against the No. 2-ranked doubles pairing in the country, Manfredi Graziani and Aaron Sandler, but went unfinished at four games a piece.
With a 1-0 lead, the Pokes kept the pressure on, extending it to 2-0 with an Ian Bracks straight-set victory over Penn's Justin Chung, 6-1, 6-2. Bracks is now 12-2 on the 2026 campaign. Penn would respond with two straight wins on courts one and five to even up the match.
This set up standout freshman Gokpinar to give the Pokes a lead they wouldn't surrender, taking down Rutter, 6-2, 6-3. Gokpinar now has a team-high 13 singles wins and sits at 13-1 in the spring. Following a third set battle, Penn took court three to set up a battle for the match on court two.
With rain falling, Kobelt avenged his dropped third-set match at Wichita State, securing a third-set tiebreaker win over Penn's Luka Butera, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5), to clinch the match over the Quakers.
The Cowboys begin conference play with a trip to Utah for matches with Utah and BYU on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
