Cowboy Tennis Drops Match at Yale

New Haven, Conn. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team dropped a tight match at Yale on Sunday afternoon, 4-3, at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

The Cowboys moved to 3-2 with the loss, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-1.

Doubles went the way of the Bulldogs, but OSU's Alessio Basile and Haydar Gokpinar picked up their fourth doubles win of the season and the second this weekend, taking down Krish Gupta and Ethan Chung, 6-2.

The three newcomers on the team were the bright spots for the Pokes today.

Starting on court six, Gokpinar made quick work of Gupta, 6-2, 6-2. This marks the fifth-straight win to start his freshman campaign, all coming in straight sets. Just to Gokpinar's left on court five, 92nd-ranked Charlie Valentine took care of business, taking down Chung, coming back in the second set to win, 6-3, 7-5. Like Gokpinar, Valentine has also won each of his matches in straight sets.

Following dropped matches on courts one and three and down 3-2 in the match, senior transfer from Georgia Southern Aaron Williams played a tight match against Yale's Zhengqing Ji. Going into the third set, Williams found himself down 5-3 needing a break to keep the match going. Williams clutched up and earned the break point and eventually went to a tiebreaker, with the senior pulling it out, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5).

The match came down to court two, where Derek Pham fell to 82^nd-ranked Edward Liao in a back-and-forth battle, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7.

The Cowboys return to Stillwater with a doubleheader on Friday against UTSA and Creighton at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
