Cowgirl Catalyst: Heard Earns Third Triple-Double in Cowgirl History

STILLWATER – Stailee Heard, a member of the preseason Naismith Women's Player of the Year Award watch list, posted the third triple-double in program history en route to an 86-58 victory over No. 19 Iowa State.
The two teams started slowly but Heard and the Cowgirls turned it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Cyclones 30-13 to take a 22-point lead at halftime. Heard's 17 rebounds and 10 assists set career highs and paced the Cowgirls to a commanding lead in both statistical categories.
"This was a really, really good win for us to know that we can be in the same conversations as Iowa State and all those top teams," Heard said. "It's just a statement game."
Needing one assist in the fourth, Heard delivered a pass to Haleigh Timmer, who was able to lay it up to give Heard her 10th assist and a triple-double, joining the exclusive club of Natasha Mack and Brittney Martin as the only Cowgirls to achieve that. The emotion finally crept out of Heard after subbing out a couple of possessions later and realizing the feat she had accomplished.
"Honestly, I didn't even really know until about the six-minute mark in the fourth quarter, because I was just out there playing," Heard said. "We talk a lot about just playing together and doing what Cowgirl Basketball is, so I was just out there playing and trying to do what's best for my team."
The desire to win is no stranger to Heard, but the desire of the 3,941 fans that roared inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday afternoon kept the Cowgirls locked in.
"They showed up for us; they showed out," Heard said. "All praise to them today because we couldn't get that one without them. We talk a lot about sisterhood and staying together, but there's only so much we can do, and our crowd brings a lot of that."
Heard and the Cowgirls will travel to Boulder to face Colorado on Sunday. OSU defeated the Buffaloes 63-56 in Stillwater earlier this month.
