Cowgirl Catalyst: Heard Leads Cowgirls to Victory Over Colorado
January 11, 2026 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER – Stailee Heard, a member of the preseason Naismith Women's Player of the Year Award watch list, dropped a game-high 21 points and tied a season-high with 8 rebounds en route to a 63-56 victory over Colorado.
The Buffaloes played a physical game, but the Cowgirls and Heard were up for the battle. She was aggressive, both in the paint and from distance, going 7-of-16 from the field and 3-of-6 from the three-point line. Her efficient shooting translated to the charity stripe, shooting 100% from the line (4-for-4).
"We just had to stick to our principle's and stick together to pull this one out," Heard said. "We knew we were going to come out with the win. We just have to be who we are."
Late in the fourth, playing 37 of the 40 minutes, Heard drove to the lane and dropped in a layup with the foul to seal the deal over the Buffaloes. The passion was visible and it felt like a weight off the shoulder as the Cowgirls could breathe and go on to close out the game.
"I feel like that helped change the momentum of the game and gave us life." Heard said. "Coach (Hoyt) looks to me to be a leader on this team, so I just have to lead and show my team that if we put our mind to it, we can do anything."
It's the fans and their passion that keep Heard motivated, especially when things are close and physical like they were on Sunday afternoon.
"I love home games," Heard said. "Our fan base is unbelievable and it just keeps getting better and better every game, so shout out to our fans."
Heard and the Cowgirls will travel to Lawrence to face conference foe Kansas on Wednesday.
