Cowboy Wrestling Blanks No. 15 Oklahoma for Record-Breaking 21st-Consecutive Bedlam Victory
January 11, 2026 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – The No. 5 Oklahoma State wrestling team shut out No. 15 Oklahoma, 37-0, in front of a sold-out crowd inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday night.
The win improves the Cowboys to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big 12, while the loss drops the Sooners to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. OSU took all 10 bouts, collecting bonus points in four of them. Oklahoma did not record a takedown in the dual. The win was the 21st-straight by Oklahoma State against Oklahoma, marking the longest streak of Bedlam wins over the 105-year rivalry.
12,549 fans piled into Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday and witnessed the first Cowboy shutout over the Sooners since 1992. The 37-point win marked the largest margin of victory over Oklahoma since 2018 and was sixth largest of all time. It was Oklahoma State's ninth shutout in 190 meetings against Oklahoma.
"What we did tonight was special," head coach David Taylor said. "We've been talking about selling this place out, and that was special. Our guys are exciting to watch. Our guys are working hard to compete and to score until the end. I think people are realizing that this is a special place to come and watch a dual. The energy was different leading up to the dual this week, and today I could really notice it."
The youngest World Team member of all time, Jax Forrest (133), made his highly anticipated debut for the Cowboys and wasted no time reminding everyone why he was the top pound-for-pound wrestler in the 2026 class. In less than a minute, Forrest pinned Oklahoma's Carter Schmidt for the first pin of Oklahoma State's season inside GIA.
"It was surreal," Forrest said. "I've gone back and forth with the coaches about what the best plan is for me, and it couldn't have gone any better. I was able to go out there and do the things I've been working on. With a sold-out crowd of over 12,000 people, it couldn't have gone any better… You get in that flow state, and everything is going right, and that's how I felt today. Obviously, there were nerves, but I have such great coaches and teammates who were keeping me calm."
Not to be overshadowed by Forrest's highly-anticipated debut, No. 12 Alex Facundo (174) picked up his second top-10 win of the season over No. 7 Carter Schubert, 7-2, for his ninth win of the season. 184 and 197-pounders No. 10 Zack Ryder and No. 8 Cody Merrill also picked up ranked wins over No. 11 Brian Soldano and No. 9 DJ Parker, respectively. The win was Ryder's highest-ranked win of his career, and Merrill's second top-10 win of the season.
True freshman No. 2 Sergio Vega (141) improved to 9-0 in his collegiate career with his team-leading sixth ranked win on the season after a 3-1 win over No. 25 Tyler Wells. Vega has yet to surrender a takedown in his career.
Cowboy veterans No. 7 Troy Spratley (125) and No. 7 Konner Doucet (HWT) both collected ranked wins in the victory, marking Spratley's fourth on the season and Doucet's third.
No. 18 Casey Swiderski tallied his third bonus-point win of the season with a 13-2 major decision victory over Alex Braun. The win is his seventh in his last eight bouts after starting the season 0-4.
Kody Routledge won his third-straight bout this season with a major decision victory over OU's Peyten Kellar, 11-3. Routledge improved to 6-2 in his career and 2-1 in dual contests.
Next up, Oklahoma State heads north to face No. 19 Missouri on Friday, December 23 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Hearnes Center.
